    Justerini & Brooks Tasting note

Not immediate, the Cras gently, gradually develops into something exquisitely beautiful. This is fine-boned and a little reserved initially but the finish is hauntingly long and elegant. Ethereal and perfectly measured flavours of flower, red cherry, redcurrant and stones. There is structure, a fine twist of austerity, vitality and a stunning finesse. Along with Veroilles and Fuées, Cras is one of the higher Chambolle vineyards and has very poor, stony soils that produces, racy, reserved wines that blossom with age.

Bringing up the rear is no less than the 2012 Chambolle-Musigny Les Cras 1er Cru from Domaine Georges Roumier. This vintage was actually missing from the vertical a few months ago, so it is a pleasure to revisit. Raspberry and wild strawberry on the nose that is bolder than expected. The 2012 eventually calms down and reveals more mineralité. The palate is still relatively backward with grippy tannins, suggesting that it might benefit from another couple of years in bottle. Persistent with vibrant redcurrant and raspberry on the finish, this is an impressive Les Cras that will drink longer than initially expected.
