Finding high quality Napa Cabernet at a truly affordable price point is not the easiest of tasks. Even the big mass produced brands sell for silly money most of the time. So coming across a project like Consortium has been a total joy – this is quite simply the best value affordable Napa Cabernet we’ve encountered. The project involves four illustrious Napa winemakers, a sommelier, wine exec and wine importer who have pooled their resources, talents and relationships to access some of Napa Valley’s best, sustainably-farmed fruit and all the winemaking necessities to get their wine into bottle. The project involves the winemaking knowhow of Stephane Vivier, the winemaker from Hyde de Villaine and Long Meadow Ranch, Dan Petroski, Winemaker at Larkmead and his own label Massican, Mark Porembski of Anomaly and Zeitgeist and Barret Anderson of Jackson Family Vineyards. A super well connected bunch, the fruit hails from top sites, their own projects and little known vineyards of great potential. The style is generous yet easy going, full of Napa charm, ripe cabernet fruit, and gentle, unobtrusive winemaking. As Elin McCoy from Bloomberg notes “it compares with Napa Cabs selling for twice the price”.
