Château Beauséjour Duffau Lagarrosse, Grand Cru Classé St Emilion, 2011

critic reviews

95/100Lisa Perrotti-Brown,The Wine Independent

A blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc, without any Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2011 Beausejour Duffau-Lagarrosse has a deep garnet color. Notes of juicy blackberries, preserved plums, and Morello cherries spill from the glass, followed by hints of mint tea, dark chocolate, lilacs, and damp soil. The full-bodied palate delivers a fantastic backbone of freshness to cut through the rich, dramatic black fruit layers, supported by ripe, rounded tannins, finishing long with a minty lift.

The 2011 Beau-Séjour Duffau Lagarosse has a sweaty nose, very upfront and bold, but this feels quite funky and palls after a couple of minutes. So appalling (and I do not use that word lightly) on the nose that I could not taste this. Some kind of bottle fault? Not sure. Tasted blind at the annual 10-Year-On tasting.
