Gevrey Chambertin, Clos St Jacques, 1er Cru, 2008
One of Gevrey’s great Premiers Crus, many believe it to be more deserving of Grand Cru status than a number of Gevrey’s more dubious Grands Crus. Really intense, serious and complex, taut high-toned mineral but very powerful too, complex, velvety and packed with flavour brimming with notes of black cherry, hedgerow fruit, plum, red cherries and minerals.

The 2008 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos St. Jacques opens with an explosive bouquet. The wine turns decidedly more elegant and ethereal on the palate. The Clos St. Jacques comes across as more ethereal than the Cazétiers. It is a texturally brilliant wine, with a sweet, sensual finish and an utterly refined personality.
