Barbera, Larigi Langhe, 2015

justerini & brooks tasting note

Luscious and velvety. Gorgeously silky Barbera. Texturally very alluring slick kirsch, red berry and blueberry fruit with a lick of salt. A stunning 65 year old, south-facing single vineyard Barbera aged for 18 months in new oak barriques. 3000 bottles a year are made.

91/100Monica Larner,Robert Parker Wine Advocate

Here is a generous and jubilant expression of 100% Barbera. The 2015 Langhe Larigi opens to a dark and succulent inner core of black fruit, dried blackberry, crushed granite and smoky spice. This wine is refined in new oak to gain extra structure and more spicy flavors. The mouthfeel is thick but velvety. There is a note of sweetness on the finish. Only 2,500 bottles were produced.

Altare's 2015 Larigi, 100% Barbera, is dark, plush and inviting. At the same time, the Larigi retains quite a bit of freshness for a wine from a radiant, warm year. Black cherry, plum, chocolate, spice and menthol infuse this supple, racy Barbera. In 2015, the Larigi is decidedly understated and gracious. It will be interesting to see if a bit more flesh develops in bottle. Today, the Larigi speaks to finesse above all else.
