Châteauneuf du Pape, Cuvée Reservée, 2009

Available Vintages
justerini & brooks tasting note

Whilst clearly traditional in style this is pure, vivid and elegant, gorgeous flavours of griotte cherry, spiced berries, clove, cinnamon, sap and sandalwood, this is rich, ripe and spicy in typical 2009 fashion yet also boasts a bright, intense and refreshing finish. A Grenache dominated blend with some Syrah, Mourvèdre and Counoise, with a smattering of the other permitted varieties. All from vines aged between 25 and 80 years old. Fermented the traditional way, lightly pressed whole bunch in concrete vats followed by a minimum 18 months in large old wooden cask, bottled without filtration.

93/100Josh Raynolds,Vinous

Dark ruby. Wild, highly aromatic bouquet of dark berry liqueur, cherry pit, smoked meat and garrigue. Deeply pitched black raspberry and bitter cherry flavors are broad and sappy, with a smoky floral quality appearing on the back. The long finish features gentle tannic grip and lingering smokiness. Fans of old-school Chateauneuf are going to love this wine.
