Chateau Montlandrie, Cotes de Castillon, 2016

10 cases, 4 bottles
£15.00 per bottle

Tasting Note:

Denis Durantou's 'entry level' wines, that is to say the wines not produced at his flagship Pomerol estate, Chateau L'Eglise Clinet are always rank amongst our 'best value' buys. Saintayme, Chenade, Cruzelles and Montlandrie offer excellent value for money, but the 2016s are perhaps the finest range we have seen to date. Montlandrie hails from plots high up on the Cote de Castillon. Denis has replanted extensively and the now some of these vines are being utilized in the final blend. Produced from 75% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon (replanted with the 412 clone, the 'Ferrari' of Cabernet Sauvignon clones...), this is tense and bright with notes of strawberries, graphite, flowers, cassis and wild plums. This is packed with serious cassis and lingonberry fruit, but the tannins are much firmer and more noticeable. This will be a long term Montlandrie.
