Château Clerc Milon

Château Clerc Milon Rothschild, 5ème Cru Classé, Pauillac, 2010

justerini & brooks tasting note

Clerc Milon is a big step up on d'Armailhac at this stage, although we should say that these wines are amongst the most backward samples we have tasted primeur. A beautiful bouquet of fine herbs, cut flowers, pencil lead, crème de mûre, liquorice and spice. The palate is equally seductive with wave after wave of thick, creamy dark berry fruit and dark brambles. This is a very classy, mineral, svelte, refined Clerc with lush pure fruit, great depth, long noble flavours and plenty of backbone. A splendid Clerc Milon. 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 36% Merlot, 11% Cabernet Franc, 2% Petit Verdot and 1% Carmenere.

96/100Jane Anson,Inside Bordeaux

Another big vintage, when it became clear that Clerc Milon was hitting a different level, and you feel it in the glass simply by hovering your nose in its vicinity. This is serious, monumental, will benefit from a few more years in bottle. Black cherry, damson, mint, ecualpytus, chocolate, coffee, silky texture, supple and satiny and full of character and life. You can either drink today with a good carafe, or happily hold it back. 50% new oak. Jean-Emmanuel Danjoy technical director.

The 2010 Clerc-Milon has a modest bouquet with blackberry and sous-bois aromas, perhaps missing the intensity of some of its peers in this flight. Pencil box scents emerge with aeration to add a little complexity. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, classic Pauillac really with cedar and mint towards the brisk and defined finish. Fine. Tasted blind at Farr Vintners 10-Year On Bordeaux horizontal.
