Barolo, Margheria, 2008

Tasting Note:

A single vineyard Cru in the Serralunga commune that used to go into the regular Barolo, but which Azelia started bottling up separately from the 2003 vintage. Aged like the normal Barolo, in pre-used large Slavonian oak botti and smaller barriques. The vines are now 45 years old. Since its debut vintage, this cuvée has improved immeasurably year after year, this is now one of the top single vineyard cuvées from Serralunga. The 2008 has the wow factor; liquorice-infused black fruit flavours of bramble, blueberry, cassis and cherry with hints of star anise. This is full, dense but so sensual and suave, there is also a glorious scent and freshness that this cuvée has never revealed before. Stunning.
