This 2019 Ca'Marcanda Magari from Bolgheri is a blend of 60% Cabernet Franc, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Petit Verdot. Layers of gentle oak spice and sweet tobacco assail the nose at first but there is a certain charm and allure underneath as a note of bright cherry shines through with light green, fresh earth notes. It has an elegant and pretty palate with a lovely silky texture, fresh acidity and gentle tannins.

The 2019 Magari comes across as a bit slender in this vintage. To be sure, the style has moved towards greater freshness in these wines, but to be frank, the 2019 just doesn't have the mid-palate and overall body that was once a signature of this wine and that is found in most Maremma wines.
