Chambertin Clos de Bèze, Grand Cru

Chambertin Clos de Bèze, Grand Cru, 2022

justerini & brooks tasting note

So very complete. Precision, charm, complexity. Long and deep, with a wonderfully polished finish. Powerful yet very fine with it, here is a wine with all the Grand Cru volume and dimension you could hope for, and yet it is all so beautifully composed that the fine layers simply melt together. This is in no way a powerhouse, but it is extremely serious. The Clairs are blessed with an excellent old vine parcel of Clos de Beze. Two thirds of this plot were planted in 1912 and the remainder in 1972. The parcel extends upwards on the slope. The upper part, poorer and stony, gives an aromatic wine of great finesse whereas the lower part, rich and clayey brings power and body.

critic reviews

94-96/100William Kelley,Robert Parker Wine Advocate

Aromas of cherries, red berries and plums mingle with rose petals, spices and bergamot to introduce the 2022 Chambertin Clos de Beze Grand Cru, a medium to full-bodied, deep and fleshy wine that's supple, suave and enveloping, with an ample core of fruit, lively acids and sweet, melting tannins.

The 2022 Chambertin Clos-de-Bèze Grand Cru has a slightly deeper and more powerful bouquet than the Clos Saint-Jacques. Exquisite definition and focus—there are more oyster shell scents here. The medium-bodied palate has finely chiseled tannins, a little chalky in texture, building wonderfully to a saline, persistent finish that exudes real breeding. A noble wine in the making.
