Corton Charlemagne, Grand Cru, 2020

Available Vintages
justerini & brooks tasting note

Larger framed than the Folatiere, but everything is kept in fine proportion. This is grand in scale, with the dimension, complexity and fluidity to pull it off. Voluptuous, buttery, wild honey and stone fruit characteristics with a firm citrus and tannic backbone reinforcing the glorious fruit. Deep, powerful yet, so effortless and flowing. Fully deserving of its Grand Cru status, this is the most impressive Corton we tasted in 2020. This is from a small parcel of 0.29ha in "Le Charlemagne" at the top of the hill that was planted in 1940, facing south west. The soils here are marney limestone, and shallow with a stony top soil.

critic reviews

93-95/100Neal Martin,Vinous

The 2020 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru has a harmonious, quite intense bouquet with yellow plum and jasmine scents, hints of lime and dessicated orange peel in tandem. The palate is well balanced with fine acidity, taut and fresh, quite mineral-driven with just a faint praline note towards the finish. Good persistence here, this is a finely-crafted Corton-Charlemagne.
