Tasting Note:

Something of a collector’s item in that this is the first rendition of Clos des Goisses that has been produced entirely from Pinot Noir. The growing season was complicated in 2011; after a warm and early start things became more turbulent throughout summer, before warmth returned in August. Harvest was early and required plenty of selection – a challenge for large scale operators, more manageable for small plots like Goisses. The result is a fascinating rendition of this great vineyard; fine boned, complex and nimble, with a beautifully clean fresh bay leaf scented, rather grown up nose that is punctuated with notes of ginger, orange zest, cool spice and fine floral notes. The palate is zesty and fresh, but with good complexity and a cleansing, savoury stony character alongside ripe notes of mango and crisp pineapple. Almost certainly the best 2011 I’ve tasted, a wine built on complex nervous energy and a sense of finesse over and above the reverb and power of deep chalk and red fruit.

100% Pinot Noir. Dosage 4.5g/l. Disgorged in March 2020 after 8 years sur lie. Just 12020 bottles produced. 80% of production was fermented and aged in barriques and no malolactic fermentation was carried out.

"Bright copper colour. Very savoury, dense, dry nose. Tight bead and more than a little pungency on the finish. So long and intense. Still quite tightly packed in, so that the finish is positively electric! This is stunning with some vibrant green-vegetation notes. Note the much higher alcohol than is usual for champagne. This just goes on and on and is all youthful pleasure. So many waves of rich minerality. Up there with the best. Drink 2020-2033". 18.5pts – Jancis Robinson MW.

"The 2011 Extra-Brut Clos des Goisses is bright and perfumed, with lovely energy driving the citrus, floral and savory notes. In 2011, Clos des Goisses is a touch lithe, but its balance is simply impeccable. In 2011, Clos des Goisses is, unusually, 100% Pinot Noir, taken from just four of the fourteen Goisses parcels, the result of some of the Chardonnay parcels being replanted and the Pinots having distinctly Chardonnay-like characteristics. Given the challenges of the year, I would not push my luck on aging. If there is one 2011 I would be willing to bet on, at least for the medium term, it is Clos des Goisses. Dosage is 4.5 liters per gram". 93/100pts - Antonio Galloni, Vinous.
