    Justerini & Brooks Tasting note

Le Petit Ducru is the new name for Lalande Borie and is produced from vineyards in the west of the commune near Chateau Lagrange plus some declassified Ducru. Since 2015 the wine has found a real personality and charm and also represents one of the best value buys from St Julien. Quite heady with notes of flowers, crème de mûre and minerals. There’s a good attack of plush black fruit, rounded and quite luxurious, palate coating, approachable, and generous with a nice hint of spice from the Petit Verdot. This isn’t overly complex, but it’s refined, well made and will provide lots of drinking pleasure. 18% Cabernet Sauvignon, 78% Merlot and 4% Petit Verdot.

A blend of 78% Merlot, 18% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 4% Petit Verdot, the 2020 Le Petit Ducru is deep garnet-purple in color. It leaps with vibrant notes of redcurrant jelly, fresh blackberries, and pencil shavings with wafts of fallen leaves and dried herbs. The medium-bodied palate delivers a refreshing line and plush tannins with a lovely savoriness to the finish.

The 2020 Le Petit Ducru de Ducru-Beaucaillou, matured in 30% new oak for 12 months, is delineated on the nose with blackberry, wild hedgerow and a discrete marine/estuarine influence. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit and well judged acidity. It displays some "rondeur" towards the finish that suggests it will drink well after just a couple of years, yet there is certainly the substance to guarantee it will age well in the cellar, if you are that way inclined.
