    Justerini & Brooks Tasting note

One of the broader more opulent Chambolles, fulsome and satisfying with a refreshing, salty sapidity offsetting the sweet red berry, damson and Victoria plum characteristics. Yin and yang flavours that work brilliantly together. A very successful Charmes. A very distinct vineyard from the Cras, Veroilles or Fuées, Charmes is one of the lower Chambolle vineyards. One of the earliest of Barthod's vineyard parcels to ripen, its wines are always very flamboyant and full.

The 2018 Chambolle-Musigny Les Charmes 1er Cru has a cohesive bouquet with brambly red fruit, sous-bois, crushed stone and light tobacco scents. There is some reduction at play and in fact, it becomes stronger with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with pure red fruit on the entry, cranberry and raspberry, quite taut and linear with a Morey-like austerity that feels fresh, but serious, on the finish. Fine, but it needs some bottle age. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2018 red tasting.
