Justerini & Brooks Tasting note

Château Cissac, Haut Médoc, 2016

The 2016 Chateau Cissac is the most sophisticated and impressive primeur samples we have tasted to date from this lovely estate near to the St Estephe and Pauillac borders. The bouquet is packed with notes of Morello cherry, cassis, cedar and gravelly minerals. The fruit is really polished and well delineated. There’s plenty of earthy, dark mulberry and cassis, which is framed with impressively refined tannins. One of the best value buys from 2016.

Neal Martin, Vinous

The 2016 Cissac has a clean and pure bouquet with blackberry, boysenberry and cedar aromas that blossom in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, a fine bead of acidity, quite precise with a focused, quite vibrant and persistent finish that is very satisfying. This is a great Cissac, a wine that will give 10 to 15 years of drinking pleasure. Tasted at the Oenoconseil tasting room in Bordeaux.

Château Cissac

Château Cissac

Chateau Cissac is the family home of the Vialard family. This charming estate is situated close to St Estephe and Pauillac and is planted predominantly with Cabernet Sauvignon. Other Medoc varieties: Merlot and Petit Verdot are also planted and are incorporated in the final blend. Laurent Saint Pasteur, the winemaker is passionate and knowledgeable, striking just the right balance between tradition and modernity. The wines always have a Medocain character, but advances in wine-making have resulted in more refined tannins and greater purity of fruit; recent vintages possess a poise and sophistication that is very impressive. The wines have become a firm favourite for both private clients and restaurants.
