Tasting Note:

Pauline Calvet's Picque Caillou is a bit of a giant killer. Situated between Haut Brion and Merignac airport it makes a habit of outclassing far more illustrious names from the Pessac Leognan commune. Produced from 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 10% Petit Verdot, aged in 34% new oak barrels and a mixture of one and two year old barrels, this promises to be another great value Picque Caillou. Aromatically, perhaps a little wilder and more brambly than previous vintages; on the palate there is an abundance of clear cassis fruit. This is very strict and finely textured with long noble flavours of salted black fruit interspersed with savoury notes of coal and cooked meats. Good purity and freshness, framed by wonderful saline tannins. Another impressive young Picque Caillou.
