Justerini & Brooks Tasting note

Etienne Sauzet, Puligny Montrachet, 2019

More taciturn than the Tufera, but even more intense. Creamy yellow fruit gripped by a crisp tannic and citrus note. There is so much dry extract and intensity here, overlaying an unctuous body, which suggests good ageing potential. A superior villages. Brilliant. A blend of seven parcels vinified separately then aged in 10% new oak, more than a third comes from Les Meix, one of the top lieu-dit in Puligny.

Neal Martin, Vinous

A blend of 12 parcels with a large plot in Les Meix, the Puligny-Montrachet Village has a slightly backward but well defined granitic nose. The palate is well balanced with Clementine and touches of ginger, quite vibrant and certainly concentrated for a Village Puligny. Good persistency here - this comes recommended.

Etienne Sauzet

Etienne Sauzet

Etienne Sauzet’s son-in-law, Gérard Boudot, makes the wine at this benchmark Burgundian Domaine and has been more recently assisted by talented winemaker Benoit Riffault, Gerard's son-in-law. A tasting with Gérard and Benoit is not just enjoyable but highly educational – each session is a virtual masterclass in terroir. Indeed, their knowledge of Puligny’s different vineyards is second to none. They resist the temptation to interfere with the wines too much after fermentation, and employs on average 30% new oak every year. The Grand Crus are, of course, impressive; even right down to Villages and Bourgogne level the wines display the finesse and grace of truly great Puligny.
