St Joseph, 2018
Gripping red and dark fruits, fresh and easy, lovely bright notes of cracked pepper complimenting the fruity bramble black cherry and loganberry characteristics. A blend of Syrah vines in the commune of Chavanay in the north part of St Joseph near Condrieu. Made from 100% de-stalked Syrah and aged in 20% new oak barriques usually for 15-16 months but for the 2015 Andre will extend this to between 18-24 months.
critic reviews
Complex and spicy, Perret's Chavanay-based 2018 Saint Joseph offers up hints of hickory smoke, cracked pepper and ripe cherries. Medium to full-bodied, it's silky and seductive, finishing with lip-smacking deliciousness. Drink it over the next 5 years.
Assertively perfumed dark berry, cherry and licorice aromas are sharpened by black pepper and mineral flourishes. Silky, energetic blueberry and bitter cherry flavors turn sweeter in the glass and pick up a smoky flourish on the back half. Firms up steadily with air and finishes spicy and quite long, displaying even tannins and a resonating blackberry quality.
