    Justerini & Brooks Tasting note
Paolo Scavino, Barolo, Rocche dell'Annunziata, Riserva, 2000

A great vineyard planted with old vines dating back to 1942. The 2000 has been aged for 12 months in French oak barriques, 24 months in French oak tonneaux and cellared in bottle for a further 6 to 7 months. An intense mineral and fruit packed wine, parading flavours of hazelnut, cedarwood, ripe cherry, sloe, and rose petal. Less tight-packed than the serious 1999, this is more opulent and softer textured with generous, seductive sweet rich tannins.

The 2009 Barolo Riserva Rocche dell'Annunziata is another bright, wonderfully nuanced wine. Freshly cut rose petals meld into raspberries, mint, licorice and crushed rocks. I very much admire the sense of weightless elegance that runs through the 2009, a sort of translucence that is wonderful to behind. Fine, silky Rocche tannins inform the long finish.
