Cornish Point, Pinot Noir, 2023
A fragrant wild red berry fruit perfume paves the way for an equally alluring palate offering silky and suave ripe red fruits. A little rounder than the Bannockburn, the tannins build gently and gradually - nothing feels forced here – a very charming, flowing and easy character with a vivacious red cherry freshness. As immediate as this is, it builds momentum in the glass – leaving you the sense there is even more to come from this. Cornish Point’s close proximity to the lake (surrounded on three sides) and the estate’s most calcareous soils, result in the most aromatic, generous and approachable wines of the Felton stable. 20% whole Clusters. 13 Months in 25% French New Oak Barrels.
critic reviews
There's a succulence to the 2023 Pinot Noir Cornish Point. It's open and charming with plenty of concentration. There's certainly a nice depth of Pinot tannin and a line of bright acidity that provides structure, holding the wine in place. The 2023 is sweetly fruited with cherries, blackberries as well as florals on the medium-long finish.
The 2023 Cornish Point Pinot Noir is perfumed and intense, with dried garden roses, blood plum, redcurrant and licorice. In the mouth, the wine is elegant initially, and as the tannins gather momentum across the palate, it becomes an altogether more powerful experience. This is an impressive wine, as usual, shaped by a firm splay of tannin that feels supple, pliable and granular. 14% alcohol, sealed under screw cap.
