Wolf & Woman
Syrah, Glen Frank, 2023
justerini & brooks tasting note
A new single vineyard from the Darling region west of the Swartland, planted on a steep slope just 9km from the Atlantic. “You can see the waves” and this proximity to the ocean brings cooling foggy conditions in the morning, extending the hang time, day-night temperature swings and thickening of the skins – perfect for producing floral, elegant, more floral, primary and white pepper-infused Syrah. The perfect contrast to the more baritone Swartland Syrah, Glen Frank is the more ethereal wine of the two. It takes its name from the dry-land farmed property. The soils are granitic and rocky. Produced with 100% whole clusters and aged in used 500L barrels for 11 months.
