    Justerini & Brooks Tasting note

From a selection within 7ha that was originally part of the Château de Vir estate that Dominique Lafon acquired in 2009. Only a small proportion actually goes into this wine, the rest is declassified into Macon Villages. The vines are old, up to 75 years old, and are a massale selection of the rare muscat variety of Chardonnay. The resulting wine is floral charming, fresh and complex.

Unwinding in the glass with aromas of pear, clear honey, oatmeal and white flowers, the 2019 Vire-Clesse is medium to full-bodied, satiny and textural, with a tightly wound core and chalky grip on the finish. This important cuvee for the domaine was harvested in seven different picks this year.

The 2019 Vire-Clessé has a very appealing bouquet of white peach and lime aromas, an underlying earthiness lending another dimension to the aromatics. The palate is well balanced with generous, slightly Muscat-tinged fruit, maybe missing a little definition on the finish yet still full of freshness. Fine.
