Pinot Noir, Altenbourg, 2020
From the single vineyard Altenbourg, the soils here are primarily marl and limestone, in contrast to the Schlossberg's granite. A blend of two plots, both southwest facing, one is 60 years old and the other is 20 years old, and was planted as a massale selection from Pommard's fabled Clos des Epenots. Fermetned with 50% whole bunches, the wine spent 2 years 30% new French barrique. Darker and sleeker than the Cuvee S, a wash of smooth dark fruits and ripe tannins lead in to a long, enveloping finish. Just 1,400bts were produced.
