    Justerini & Brooks Tasting note

Dame de Montrose has been one of a select group of outstanding second wines over the last decade, but the 2018 has raised the bar to a new level. This has real Grand Vin stature. Initially brooding, slowly, floral Cabernet and violet notes emerge along with bramble, blackberry and loganberry aromas. There is a lot of wine here. Deep and concentrated with waves of lavish yet tensile fruit - this is a really serious effort with large scale tannins that stain the palate with cassis, wood spice, liquorice and ferrous minerals. An outstanding second wine. 52% Merlot, 39% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot.

The 2018 La Dame de Montrose is deep garnet-purple in color. It charges out with bold notions of baked plums, fruitcake, and chocolate-covered cherries, followed by hints of clove oil, menthol, and sandalwood. The medium to full-bodied palate is chock full of ripe black fruit with loads of exotic spice accents and a velvety texture, finishing with impressive length.

The 2018 La Dame de Montrose is a blend of 52% Merlot, 39% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Petit Verdot and 4% Cabernet Franc. Deep garnet-purple in color, it springs from the glass with vivacious notions of redcurrant jelly, mulberries, juicy blackberries and stewed plums, giving way to suggestions of underbrush, wild sage and fertile loam. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is laden with bright, expressive black and red berry layers, supported by plush tannins and tons of freshness, finishing long with a spicy kick.

The 2018 La Dame de Montrose has a sweet black cherry and crème de cassis scented bouquet, scents of violet developing in the glass. It is like an exaggerated version of the previous vintage. The palate is medium-bodied with thick tannin. There is real volume and density to this La Dame de Montrose, the Cabernet Sauvignon expressive and imparting a graphite like note, despite being proportionately less than the Merlot in the blend. This is a very well crafted La Dame de Montrose that is going to give 15 to 20 years of drinking pleasure.
