    Justerini & Brooks Tasting note

A more reticent Referts than usual, not a bad thing, opening with a little flint and roasted nut reduction at first. This develops on the palate into yellow fruits, which are sweet but offer some crunch, firmness and freshness. With air this develops a more familiar fullsome character - round, silky and alluring with stone fruit and peach blossom notes. From vines older than 50 years planted on heavier, more compact clay soils than Perrières and Garenne, the resultant wine is often therefore at the richer end of the spectrum.

The 2019 Puligny-Montrachet Les Referts 1er Cru offers lilting aromas of apple blossom, granite and citrus peel on the nose, nicely focused and very pure in style. The palate is fresh and concentrated with zippy acidity, very very cohesive and concentrated though without the richness and decadence of say, the Hameau de Blagny. There is more Puligny DNA here and good potential for aging.
