The 1999 Hermitage is more complete than the 2000, with additional fullness. This opaque purple-colored wine reveals aromas of cassis, licorice, spice, and pepper. It is medium to full-bodied, thick, and rich. This is an excellent, possibly outstanding Hermitage to drink between 2006-2018. Importer: Peter Weygandt, Weygandt-Metzler, Unionville, PA; tel. (a blend sold primarily in England, but not shipped to the U.S.; lightly filtered but not fined) Bright full ruby. Sappy aromas of cassis, boysenberry and plum, with lightly roasted and gamey notes; rather Burgundian. Smooth and moderately dense; a fresh, elegant, polished style of Hermitage, finishing with good length and substantial but fine tannins. This is 13.2% alcohol, following a bit of chaptalization, says Faurie.
