    Justerini & Brooks Tasting note

Stephane’s Cote Rotie is a blend of a number of parcels across the appellation, Tupin, Cote de Brune, Cote Blonde and Cote Rosiers. The grapes from Cote Blonde were all de-stalked whereas those from Brune and old vines from Cote Rosiers, up to 50% of the stalks are kept. The wine is aged in used oak barriques for 18 months. Ripe but not without freshness, fruity round and plump, wonderfully balanced. Firm but not hard, juicy sweet fruit flavours of mulberry, raspberry, plum with svelte, spicy undertones. A suave Cote Rotie with an evident touch of glycerol to it, very smooth but with sufficient sap and backbone. Excellent.

Vivid ruby. High-pitched aromas of red and dark berry preserves, potpourri and minerals, with a sexy note of Asian spices mounting with air. Juicy, focused and pure, offering palate-staining black raspberry and cherry flavors and subtle smokiness. The mineral note carries through the long, spicy, floral finish, which shows excellent clarity. I also had the chance to retaste the 2008 Cote-Rotie back in New York and found it open-knit, spicy and very floral, with intense red fruit character and a silky texture. I have little doubt that it will age nicely on its balance but had no trouble drinking it right now.
