Graft, Syrah, 2021

10 cases
Equiv. £29.17 per bottle

Tasting Note:

Graft is a pure Syrah from the highest vineyard in the Polkadraai Hills, at 300m, which Lukas shares with close friend Reenen Borman of Boschkloof, who uses his half for the Patatsfontein Sons of Sugarland cuvee. Taste both wines side-by-side and it’s clear what a special site this is. Balancing a fair amount of tannin and acidity with finely pitched wild herbs and earthy fruits, it exudes notes of tapenade, blueberries, heather and currants with a crisp peppery finish. Really a superb, energetic, quite virile Syrah that sees demand outstrip supply. In our view the 2021 is the best to date. For the first time, Lukas used 100% whole bunch in the vinifications, before ageing in 3rd and 4th fill barrels. These are all important tweaks that have taken this cuvee to a new level this year. Bottled December 2021.
