    Justerini & Brooks Tasting note

A totally different style of wine to Taillepieds, as usual, more perfumed open and elegant but with equal intensity. Charming, ripe, svelte fruit flavours of kirsch strawberries and fresh cut flowers. Graceful, elegant and haunting. Champans is a wonderfully placed vineyard right in the heart of the Volnay appellation that understandably can produce the archetypal example of Volnay; sensual, floral and alluring. It is also, very arguably, the vineyard in the d’Angerville stable that has benefited most from Guillaume d’Angerville’s stewardship since he took over in 2003.

The 2010 Volnay Champans 1er Cru offers red berry, iron piping and loamy scents on the nose, open-knit and developing a touch of rose petal with time. The palate is well balanced with a dash of white pepper on the entry, a gentle grip, perhaps lighter than the Taillepieds towards the finish that errs towards Pommard in style. Delicious and ready to go. Tasted at the Marquis d'Angerville tasting in London.
