    Justerini & Brooks Tasting note

This is now Marielle’s fifth vintage at La Conseillante, and she’s forging a distinctive and successful style. The 2019 is produced from 84% Merlot and 16% Cabernet Franc, which will be aged in 70% new French oak, 27% second fill barrels and 3% in amphora. Initially this is quite reticent, but with some aeration notes of roses, crème de mûre, black forest gateau, vanilla and gorgeous black cherry emerge. There’s wonderful texture here, creamy, silky dark cherry liqueur fruit fills the mouth – it’s so velvety and voluptuous, coating and caressing the palate. The tannins are laced in swathes of violet scented açai and cassis, notes of spice and a hint of Valrhona chocolate. It feels luxury from the first nose to the long sumptuous finish

Made from 84% Merlot and 16% Cabernet Franc, the 2019 La Conseillante is deep garnet-purple in color. It hits the ground running with notes of violets, chocolate-covered cherries, and wild blueberries, leading to hints of crushed rocks, pencil shavings, and dried roses. The full-bodied palate is elegantly crafted, multilayered, and refreshing, featuring bright, energetic fruit and a long minerally finish.

The 2019 La Conseillante was tasted twice, the first coming across just a little top heavy, yet returning after 20 minutes, it is quintessential La Conseillante. Black cherries, blueberry fruit and crushed violets come through with time. The palate is very sweet, plush and extravagant with layers of tasty oak, modern in style to the extent that at the moment this Pomerol is submerged under layers of "baby fat". This will require a lot of time. Tasted blind at the Southwold annual tasting.

Majoring on Cabernet Franc character at this point, clear spice notes with rosebud, fragrant raspberry leaf, the most gorgeously powerful aromatics. On the palate you get cassis, bilberry, liquorice, dark chocolate shavings, balanced yet concentrated. Love this wine, and it is a brilliant example of the vintage. Harvest September 17 to October 9 (picking just a day at a time as needed, spread out over three weeks). Bottled mid June. 70% new oak, 30% amphoras. 34hl/h yield.
