From a midslope property in Pomerol, with a blend of 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc, this presents a sweet and expressive nose suggestive of liquorice cake, with a lightly dehydrated character to the fruit, dried blackberry with notes of charcoal and toast, much of which suggests a little desiccation of the berries at harvest. This translates into a palate rich in crushed and concentrated black fruits, with a warm and peppery breadth, underpinned a lightly chalky frame of tannins. This feels sweet and compact, with a warm, dark and slightly spirity finish and length, with plenty of peppery tannin showing here. It is admirable, but the bottled wine shows a much bolder and more modern build than it did at the primeurs, and it will appeal most to fans of that style. The alcohol on the label is 15.5%.

Extremely well placed on grave and clay soils, very powerful, This is an estate that I love to recommend, flies under the radar and yet so consistent - if a little super charged in this vintage. It's silky with muscular tannins, sage and rosemary spice, touch of soy and red pepper, clear personality. Vayron family, 9ha, early harvest September 5 to 15 and yet still this has climbed to 15.5, reflecting the intense conditions of the vintage.

The 2022 Bourgneuf is a Pomerol I tasted three or four times. Initially, a couple of bottles perplexed me, but the last two were much more encouraging. It has an intense black cherry and blueberry bouquet with neatly integrated oak and lovely purity. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, a slightly cedar black fruit note and a touch of Christmas cake on the finish. Based on this bottle tasted at Oenoteam, this is a fine Pomerol.
