Notes

David Suire has resurrected this magnificent estate in Saint-Christophe-des-Bardes, with a string of highly impressive wines. The 2021 is another excellent example from this high-flying St Emilion. Produced from 99% Merlot and 1% Cabernet Franc from very old vines (more than 50 years old). Dark and seductive, notes of mulberry, cinnamon and liquorice mix with bright red berries. There’s a good core of black cherry, hedgerow fruit and crushed rocks. Intense and focussed, this finishes with smooth tannins and an array of salty minerals.

Notes
The 2021 Laroque is a standout. Bright and racy, with tremendous persistence, Laroque stakes its claim as Saint-Émilion's brightest rising star. Bright limestone accents run through a core of red/purplish fruit, rose petal, mint and white pepper. There is a linear intensity to Laroque that is hugely appealing. Technical Director David Suire fashioned a gem. Don't miss it.

Château Laroque

Château Laroque

David Suire’s Laroque is an outstanding St Emilion, which for the time being is still a relative bargain. Not many clarets at just over £20 per bottle can boast scores in the mid-nineties, yet Laroque has achieved this feat in three consecutive vintages:2018, 2019 and 2020. The wines are concentrated, but not overblown, with a real sense of harmony and balance. Although it is a huge estate, only about half of the production makes it into the grand vin.
