    92/100
    Chris Kissack,

This is a blend of 45% Cabernet Sauvignon and 55% Merlot. A really elegant nose for Pibran, with gently toasted red cherry and summer berry fruits, laced with scented crushed chalk. While the nose eases you in gently, the palate has energy and form, and a sense of classicism, leading to a finish lightly grained with tannin, but a good sense of drive and length, the palate tingling with pepper and smoke in the finish. This is a really elegant and impressive vintage for Pibran, despite the 14.5% declared on the label, and it comes in above my primeurs range.

Good quality, perky dark fruits, liquorice and cranberry, touches of smoked caramel and espresso, this gives Pauillac signature in spades, while retaining the high spice and opulence of the vintage. 40% new oak for ageing.

The 2022 Pibran has a slightly showier bouquet than previous vintages, yet it feels more contained compared to its opulent showing from barrel. The palate is medium-bodied with a brisk, sharp entry and a sweet core of fruit that doesn't quite gel as harmoniously as I would like. Not bad, though it needs to temper its exuberance.

Exhibiting aromas of dark berries, plums, petals and burning embers, the 2022 Pibran is medium to full-bodied, taut and lively, with bright acids and a chalky finish. It should flesh out nicely with further elevage.
