    Nicolas Greinacher,
    Vinous
This is by far the best bottle I have ever tasted of the 1998 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Marie Beurrier, a legendary wine made by the late Henri Bonneau. Coming from one of the finest Southern Rhône vintages in history, the 1998 rushes from the glass with incense, dried strawberry, crushed flowers, cured meat and herbal liqueur. Touching the palate with sweet-tasting fruit and a seamless mouthfeel, the full-bodied 1998 builds excellent drive on the mid-palate and finishes long and refined. If stored in perfect conditions, it will hold up nicely for five more years. That said, this ravishingly beautiful elixir has reached its peak, and there is no reason to wait any longer to pull the cork.
