    Justerini & Brooks Tasting note

The usual blend of 70% Sangiovese, with 30% Cabernet and Merlot from one of the top crus in the region, the hill of Piaggia. The wine is aged in barriques for 24 months followed by 6 months finishing in bottle. Deep rich, brooding and spicy, a nose packed with ripe blackcurrant, ripe svelte and velvety on the palate, flavours of cherry, cassis, myrtle with savoury clove and herb touches, more complex than the Il Sasso but tighter so it will therefore need a year or two years more in bottle than its sibling before being approached

    Eric Guido,

The 2007 Carmignano Riserva Piaggia is a bit more aromatically tired than expected. It lifts from the glass with a dusty and earthy blend of cedar shavings, dried herbs, sous-bois and plums. This is ripe in style, silken yet energetic, with cooling acidity and depths of red and black fruits. It finishes with earthy minerality, sweet tannins and hints of soy. Frankly speaking, if this was the only bottle on the table, I'd be happy to drink it any day of the week.
