Warm climate aromatics of fruit liqueur, leather and salt on the nose. Dark Crème de Mûre fruit dominates the palate, a little closed at first as you’d expect with the power and structure suppressing flavour initially. A second sip and a wave of sunny Mediterranean characteristics soon hit you - dried herbs, garrigue and salt washing through the ripe, dark brambly fruits. The warming, Provençal flavours are lifted on the finish by a noticeable, fresh violet touch. The influence of Mourvèdre here is clear with its density, perfume and mouth-watering savouriness. A big, rich and wild wine adequately tempered by Mourvèdre’s calming influence. A rare parcel selection blend of 60% Mourvèdre, 20% Grenache and 10% Syrah and 10% Counoise. Aged, liked Beaucastel, in large oak foudre but bottled 8 months later. Production is very limited, only one “foudre” equating to 5,000 bottles was produced.
