Marques de Murrieta

Luciano Murrieta went to Bordeaux in 1848 determined to discover the art of making structured, balanced and long-lived wine. He returned to Rioja four years later and set up his own estate. Since then, through attentive vineyard management, careful winemaking and ageing in barriques, Marques de Murrieta, 105 years old in the summer of 2002, have been making first-class Rioja. The standard Reserva is a Tempranillo based wine blended with a higher proportion of Mazuelo than most Riojas giving complexity and structure. TheYgay Reserva is made from the estate's finest grapes, the final blend usually containing less Tempranillo and more Garnacha and Mazuelo than the standard Reserva. The Ygay is bottled after 50 months in barrel - showing complex smoky hints, flavours of currant fruit vanilla and cedar spice this is a timeless classic.
