    Justerini & Brooks Tasting note

Of the three Spätlese, the Juffer Sonnenuhr is the one showing the most overt minerality and least sweetness (though analytically they are almost identical). Long and refined, with notes of salt and citrus, savoury stony flavours and an almost chewy minerality on the finish. Dancing, yet powerful – a classic Juffer Sonnenuhr.

    David Schildknecht,
    Vinous
Ripe pear and quince laced with grapefruit capture one’s attention before taking the first sip, which then proves to be absolutely luscious and perfectly supported by high residual sugar that comes off as in no way exaggerated. Like the corresponding Niederberg Helden, this introduces a flattering creaminess of texture that none of the wines preceding it in this lineup could boast. The sense of levity here approaches weightlessness. The finish, at once soothing and consummately refreshing, is seductively sustained and transparent to stony nuances. (Note that unlike his father and brother at Weingut Fritz Haag, Thomas Haag does not attach specific A.P. numbers to specific bottlings year after year. So, for example, last year’s non-auction Spätlese from the Juffer-Sonnenuhr bore A.P. #10.)
