Giuseppe Mascarello, Barolo, Monprivato, 2010

2010

Justerini & Brooks Tasting note

Giuseppe Mascarello, Barolo, Monprivato, 2010

Castiglione Falleto vineyard that is one of the finest, most hallowed plots in the whole of Barolo. A very steep south west facing vineyard with a very white limestone based soil that gives profound, mineral wines. The 2010 is a beauty. Ethereal, fresh and intense, fine –boned yet strong with it, beautifully clear flavours of plum, damson, cherry and rose. Vital and Seductive. Spellbinding. Aged for 36 months in large used wooden cask.

Giuseppe Mascarello

Giuseppe Mascarello

Giuseppe Mascarello is truly one of the great wines estates in the world. Their fabulous vineyard holdings, above all a sizeable 6.25ha of the legendary Monprivato vineyard, and a gentle, traditional approach to making wine result in some of the most ethereal, distinctive and sought-after wines in the world. The Mascarello family have been running their estate since the late 1800s. In 1980 current owner Mauro Mascarello took over from his father and has since seen the estate’s stock rise considerably amongst wine lovers globally and with his son Giuseppe and daughter Elena now alongside him, the domaine’s future looks bright. The wines are fermented with wild yeasts and are aged in large old wooden casks for several years before bottling without filtration.
