2012 is a Champagne vintage that is fast becoming a firm favourite and Veuve’s offering is a very fine bottle with masses of presence and charm. At just over half Pinot Noir, it combines precise red fruit with crisp citrus notes, chalk and freshly baked sourdough. Open-knit, charming and present, it will make for very fine drinking over the next 5-10 years.
A Champagne house that needs little introduction.
Nicole Barbe Ponsardin, the widow or veuve as it is in French, took over the house at the tender age of 27. Her resolve ensured Veuve was shipped to Russia disguised in coffee barrels and is renowned for establishing the now common-place riddling process, or remuage, used today.
Pinot Noir grapes from Bouzy, produces wines of supple finesse, elegance and drinkability.
